Islamic Ways to Prevent Yourself from Evil Eye

In Islam, safeguarding oneself from the evil eye is essential for spiritual and personal well-being. The evil eye, or Ayn, is believed to cause harm through envy or jealousy. To protect oneself and loved ones, there are several Islamic practices and supplications recommended. This guide provides effective methods for seeking protection from the evil eye, based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the Quran. By incorporating these practices into daily life, one can maintain spiritual safety and avoid negative influences.

  1. Recite the Remembrance of Allah in Daily Conversations:
    • If you are a woman, make sure to observe the Islamic rules of modesty (hijab).
  2. Recite the Morning and Evening Duas, Especially:
    • بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لاَ يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلاَ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ العَلِيمُ
Bismillahi alladhi la yadurru ma’asmihi shay’un fil ardhi wala fissama’i wa huwa as-Sami’ul ‘alim.
Recite this three times in the morning and evening. (Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3335)
    • أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
A’udhu bikalimatillahi tammati min sharri ma khalaq.
Recite this three times in the morning and evening. (Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3559)
    • Surah Ikhlas, Surah Falaq, Surah Nas: Recite each of these three times in the morning and evening. (Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3575)
  3. For Protecting Children:
    • Recite Surah Falaq and Surah Nas and blow over the children, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) did.
  4. A Beautiful Dua for Protection from the Evil Eye:
    • أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ
A’udhu bikalimatillahi tammati min kulli shayatin wa hammaatin wa min kulli ‘ayinin lammaatin.
Recite this several times in the morning and evening and blow over yourself and your children. It is a powerful way to seek protection from the evil eye without needing charms or amulets.
    • Note: When reciting for others, use أُعِيْذُكَ (u’idhuka) for individuals, أُعِيْذُكُمَا (u’idhukuma) for two people, and أُعِيْذُكُمْ (u’idhukum) for multiple people. However, reciting A’udhu bikalimatillahi… is also acceptable with the intention of who you are reciting for.
  5. Avoid Showcasing on Social Media:
    • Refrain from showing off or posting unnecessary pictures or events about your happiness and comfort.
  6. Keep Personal Blessings Discreet:
    • The Prophet (peace be upon him) advised keeping personal blessings hidden to avoid jealousy. Praise and discuss your blessings modestly and avoid unnecessary bragging about your achievements, family, or business.
  7. Increase the Use of Salaam (Greeting):
    • Increasing the use of the Islamic greeting Assalamu Alaikum can help ward off jealousy and negative feelings.
  8. Pray to Allah for Protection:
    • The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Seek refuge from the evil eye with Allah, for it is real.” (Ibn Majah: 3508)
